The “vier nationen turnier” took place on 13 & 14
May in the magnificent location “Coque” in the city of Luxembourg, last used
for an IKF event for the Europa Cup 1st round tournament last October.
Although it was not easy to create some atmosphere in the
hall with a capacity of 3000 spectators, the public enjoyed some very good games.
As could be expected the teams from Wales and Scotland competed for the highest
ranking. Some tactical mistakes at the end of the game on the side of the Welsh
team were decisive for the final result between them. The Scottish team that
never had the lead, won with the smallest difference.
Luxembourg proved to be too strong for the young Hellenics
and was even a tough challenger for Wales in the closing game. Their years of
experience and the professional coaching were key factors for an easy victory.
As for the Greeks, they will try to win the Balkan tournament in July.
Martin Uherka, a Czech referee who recently joined the higher
level programme, and Nick Vertessen, a promising talent from Belgium, took care
of the refereeing.
In a short period of time the FLK proved once more to be a
very good organiser and are fully capable of bidding for more major events.
Laurent Schuessler, Marco Aardoom and their assistants are to be congratulated
for an excellent organisation. A combination of knowledge, spirit and vision
turned this tournament into a high level spectacle. A new wind is definitely
blowing in Luxembourg!
