The last day matches were exciting. Close, a lot of tension, good korfball and the best team team became the winner of the Europa Shield 2010.

NC Benfica did win the final after a thrilling match. VKC Kolin did their utmost but the Portugese squad did have more scoring ability and more experience. They were leading from the start. They took a 4-point lead at 3-7 and 8-12. At half time the score was 9-12. In the second half the Czech team managed to score the equalizer at 16-16 with 7 minutes remaining. In the end the Portugese managed a 2-point lead again 17-19. The last goal of the match and the IKF Europa Shield 2010 was for VKC Kolin (18-19) but there was not enough time to score another goal. NC Benfica the winner after the last whistle of the excellent referee Alle Visser. The Award Ceremony was presented by Frans Walvis. He awarded as well:

  • the best male scorer of the Europa Shield: Fabian Rodenbach (GER) with 19 goals;
  • the best female scorer of the Europa Shield: Carla Antunes (POR) with 10 goals.

Special words of thanks went to the Hungarian organisation. They did a great job. Further to the high class work of the four referees, the referee assessor and the four jury mambers.

A very good event and every team went home with positive feelings.
