Korfball is a sport played in a great number of schools. Many korfball
coaches are teachers and numerous international players caught the korfball bug
whilst playing the game with their schoolmates. Using the infrastructure
prepared for international school projects via eTwinning.net, driven by the
European Union (EU), seems to be a great launching pad for progressing korfball
development in schools.
The EU in its desire to see greater collaboration and exchange of information
between schools has developed a portal called eTwinning.net, where teachers and
students use the Internet to work together across borders. Schools cooperate,
exchange information and share learning materials. Schools in primary and
secondary education (indicative age bracket: 3-19 yr olds) within the EU are
involved. Various activities with optional content are supported; the eTwinning.net
website enables schools to collaborate and exchange information through the
provision of sophisticated information communication technologies.
Sports is one of ten promoted topics on eTwinning.net, but in terms of
project uptake sits in 8th place. For further information check out the profile
article of Sports.
Many European schools, doing international projects with a korfball element,
can start using the portal immediately; other schools can get inspired by
checking out existing collaborations and/or may network through the "Find a
Partner" feature.
The IKF encourages schools where korfball is practised to register on the
site and to make their school available for projects with other schools. The
summer months seem to be a good time to do the groundwork for next year's
challenges.
