Progress Report on the new Simplified Rule Book
Thursday, 05 May 2005 00:00
The IKF announced last year that a new, simplified rule book would be published this year. This new book will normally consist of three parts. In part 1 will be the basic rules. In part 2 will be the Guidance Notes to the basic rules.

This is not that much different from the current rule book where the rule was in bold type and an explanation often followed. The new system will, however, split these into two separate parts – the basic rules and the explanations (guidance notes). The third part of the rules of korfball will vary from country to country. This part will contain the National Organisation’s own regulations or competition rules. For the IKF’s part, its Competition Regulations will form the third part of their rule book.

Because of the format of this new rule book it was felt by the IKF Council that countries should be given more time to translate it into their own languages before it officially supersedes the current rules. The book will, therefore, be formally published after the World Games and will then come into effect on 1 July 2006. However, if a country wishes to bring forward its implementation then it is free to do so and copies of the new text will be made available on request. In the meantime the current amended version of the rules will apply until the end of June 2006 (even in IKF Competitions).
