The International Korfball Federation and the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) have signed an agreement to conduct out of competition drug testing in korfball. Tests will be conducted on international level athletes. The contract concerns a period of three years.
While the use of performance enhancing drugs has not been an issue in korfball (as in many other team sports), the IKF does support the IOC and WADA in its fight against doping and therefore wants to actively collaborate with these bodies against the use of banned substances. For 2003, the IKF will conduct its anti-doping program along the lines of the Olympic Movement Anti-doping Code. It is anticipated that the IKF General Assembly will adopt the World Anti-doping Code in November of 2003, such that from the January 2004 all procedures will be in line with the new Code.
