The final of the IKF European Shield held in Castrop Rauxel (GER) was expected to be between the two pool leaders SG Pegasus (GER) and Nottingham (ENG). However, hosts Schweriner and Ceske Budejovice (CZE) obviously had not followed the script and the second teams in both pools won their semi-finals – Schweriner by 10 – 9 against fellow Germans SG Pegasus and Ceske Budejovice by 16 – 14 against Nottingham. In front of a packed sports hall (standing room only) with the host team’s supporters cheering on their team, the  Czechs proved to be slightly too strong for the Germans and clinched the Shield with an 11 – 7 scoreline. Nottingham won the bronze medal beating SG Pegasus 13 – 12.

In the matches for the other places, CEVG (Vilanova, CAT) was 5^th after beating MAFC (HUN) 18 -7 and CCCD Carnaxide (POR) was 7^th after beating AZS Wroclaw 22 – 6.

The event was very well hosted by Schweriner KC on behalf of the German Federation and the spectator support over the three days was excellent.
