A record 15 countries from all over the world have entered the 17th U19 Korfball World Cup which will be held in the city of Leek in The Netherlands. This international korfball tournament for players under the age of 19 will again be held in the Sports Centre Leek from 5 – 8 April 2012 and is patronised by the International Korfball Federation (IKF).
For the first time China, Serbia and Belarus are among competing nations. The U19 Talent Team of Dutch District North completes the number of 16 competitors, however this team is playing out of competition so will not be eligible for the Championship.
The 16 teams will battle in four pools, playing three games each. The final day of the tournament starts with semi finals. The teams will play their last game in the event to determine their final placing overall.
The draw of 30 January 2012 resulted in the following groups:
Group A: Chinese Taipei, Catalonia, Romania and China;
Group B: Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic and Serbia;
Group C: England, Hungary, Russia and Belarus;
Group D: Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and JTT North.
The Winner of the 2011 U19 tournament is the Netherlands who defeated Belgium in the final.
