An "epic length" korfball tournament was part of the 2009 "Sunshine Sports" event and was held at the Central Stadium of Zhengzhou University from April 20 to May 5 , 2009. The event was sponsored by the Communist Youth League Committee and the Department of Physical Education of Zhengzhou University.
27 faculties from Zhengzhou University participated in this event which was the greatest number and the highest level of participation in China to date. In high temperatures and through hard training and competing, the various teams of athletes showed their honourable style and level. Players demonstrated the high spirituality and technical and tactical capabilities of our college students, and highlighted the important standing of the korfball game in our province and even in our country.
Through the intense competition, the final top eight placings were: the Business School, the Institute of Chemical Technology, the Tourism Management School , Institute of Public Administration, Management Engineering School, College of Pharmacy, the Basic Medical College, and the Civil Engineering Institute.
The leaders of the Youth League Committee and the P.E. Department awarded these eight teams and were photographed with them after the presentations. All of the athletes contributed greatly to help develop the game of korfball and made a strong effort to attend all the trainings and the matches.They displayed outstanding achievement for Zhengzhou University in promoting and popularising the sport of korfball.
