A coaching clinic and training camp was recently held for the Japanese national team on August 19 - 28, 2005.
Asia Oceania Korfball Federation (AOKF) Secretary General and project-leader, Bird Fang-yi Hsieh, organised a group of facilitators consisting of a translator and top players from Chinese Taipei, who did an excellent job in facilitating the project.
A coaching clinic/ training camp for a newly established korfball team based in Tokyo was held on August 20 - 21. An ‘Introduction to Korfball’ clinic also took place at Akita University on August 23. The major coaching clinic/ training camp was conducted in Misato (former named Rokugo) from August 21 - 27.
The Japan Korfball Association was very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this kind of high-level training. The clinic went a long way towards helping raise the skill levels of players as well as imparting valuable insights that will prepare Japan for the challenges that face them when they venture into the international korfball arena.
On 25th August two reporters from Tokyo Sport Newspaper, the biggest sport newspaper in Japan, visited the coaching clinic. The reporters were naturally quite inquisitive and asked a lot of questions and involved themselves to the point that they rolled up their sleeves and participated during the match. The visit from the reporters was an excellent vehicle on which to promote Korfball to the general public.
The key outcome of this promotional tour was the establishment of a korfball base in Tokyo, thereby enhancing the prospect of attracting new people to the game of korfball in Japan.
A special acknowledgement must be made to both the IKF and Asia-Oceania Korfball Federation who provided valuable support to this project.
